Visit one of the world's most powerful museum experiences, the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force. This 90,000-square-foot museum is dedicated to preserving the history and stories of the Eighth Air Force, the "greatest air armada of all time."

The famous World War II squadron the Mighty Eighth Air Force was formed in Savannah in January 1942. Within one month, they were shipped out to the United Kingdom. Flying Royal Air Force aircraft, the Mighty Eighth became the largest air force of the period. Exhibits at this museum begin with the prelude to World War II and the rise of Adolf Hitler, and continue through Desert Storm.

The newly opened Savannah Children’s Museum is a wonderful open-air playground fantastic for exploring and creative play. Please make sure you have plenty of water and sunscreen. 

The landscaping is beautiful, with play levels built right into the ruins of the old train depot. Exposed bricks, beams and ironwork are everywhere. The top level has a water table, musical instruments and blocks stations. The second level expands into a huge play area with a maze, playground, book nook, dress-up area, more blocks and oversize board games.

The Telfair Museums consist of 3 museums; The Telfair Academy (shown), the Owens-Thomas House, and the Jepsen Center of Contemporary Art.

The Telfair Academy is a former mansion built from 1818-1819 for Alexander Telfair, son of Revolutionary War patriot and Georgia governor Edward Telfair.

The Telfair Academy is the first and oldest public art museum in the South. Founded through the bequest of Mary Telfair (1791–1875), a prominent local citizen, the museum opened in 1886 in the Telfair family’s renovated neoclassical Regency-style mansion, known as the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The Ships of the Sea Museum is located in the William Scarborough mansion built in 1819. One of the earliest examples of the Greek revival in Savannah, this beautiful home was built for William Scarborough, president of the Savannah Steamship Company. It features Roman-style windows that flank the entrance and a monumental Doric portico with a fanlight overhead.

The Owens-Thomas House & Slave Quarters is considered by architectural historians to be one of the finest examples of English Regency architecture in America. This most important and architecturally significant house was begun in 1816 and completed in 1819.
