Hampton Lillibridge House
Hampton Lillibridge House
Savannah, GA 31401
The Hampton Lillibridge residence is considered to be the most haunted house in Savannah. It was built in 1796 for Hampton Lillibridge from Rhode Island. It is located at 507 East Saint Julian Street near Washington Square and The Pirates House.
After the death of Hampton Lillibridge his widow sold the property and over time it became a boarding house. During that period a sailor hung himself in one of the guest rooms. For number of years no one would live in the house.
In 1963 Jim Williams purchased the property along with the house next door with the purpose of restoring both. During the move of the second house a laborer was crushed to death when the roof collapsed during the preparation for the move. And, as legend goes, become another victim of the curse of the house.
Also during the 1963 relocation of the houses, the workers discovered an ancient crypt as they were preparing the foundation for the move. Since the crypt was empty the workers simply sealed it and reburied it.
There have been instances where tools and equipment during the restoration have mysteriously disappeared or relocated. Also mocking laughter and footsteps have been heard along with the moving of furniture. Jim Williams once reported numerous abnormalities.
